The Legal Team is a core function we’re building at Karma, the Legal Team is in the Business Support department and reports to the COO and in some instances the CEO.

As Legal Manager you’re responsible for managing and helping with all legal matters and initiatives within the company. You’re expected to work proactively to make sure all agreements and templates needed to conduct the business is present, up to date and of the highest possible standard. From time to time you’re also expected to join in negotiations with larger potential customers and investors.

The Legal Team will ultimately consist of several Legal Managers and Senior Legal Managers as well as possible other roles. Legal Managers report to the Senior Legal Managers and The Senior Legal Managers report to the VP of Legal if such function is present and otherwise directly to the COO and/or CEO. All positions are based in either London, UK or Stockholm, Sweden.

The Legal Team is responsible for the following four areas:

Plan

  • Create, revise and maintain a “legal master plan” including all current, and for the future needed, legal documents.
  • Continuously estimate time and investments needed to keep the company’s legal data room up to date and of the highest possible standard given the size of the business.

Coordinate

  • Work with all departments within the company and their legal requests to ensure delivery where it’s needed
  • Assist internal clients in estimation and planning; identifying dependencies and conflicts

Lead

  • Lead all legal matters and initiatives to secure successful delivery
  • Lead pre/post legal-studies and ad-hoc investigations to determine possible outcome, actual outcome or legal viability

Report

  • Report aggregated status for all legal matters and initiatives to the company’s Management team and key stakeholders
  • Assist all internal and external clients in any needed legal follow-up
  • Maintain an archive of legal documentation

What does a Legal Manager do?

  • You take ownership and follow through on deliveries and tasks.
  • You identify and actively drives hypotheses around areas of improvement.
  • You are a direct and clear communicator on all levels, written and verbally.
  • Securing efficient execution of legal matters and initiatives, contributing to the fulfillment of the Legal Team’s responsibilities as described above
  • In legal initiatives you own, delivering the needed results within the timeframe and budget decided
  • Assisting internal and/or external clients when starting a new legal initiative or matter
  • Continuously performing risk analysis and suggesting/implementing actions to eliminate/minimize risks
  • Securing that a healthy level of legal documentation is produced, distributed to relevant stakeholders and archived for future reference
  • Continuously informing internal and external clients and stakeholders of the legal matter’s status
  • Spreading knowledge of legal templates/documentations/principles throughout the company, ensuring e.g. that everyone understands the importance of legal compliance and what is expected from them
  • Acting as an ambassador for the Legal Team and for legal principles throughout the company
  • Making sure that legal matters and initiatives inside the company and Legal Team run smoothly and efficiently
