Sally R is a Swedish cleantech company that uses space technology to secure a healthy indoor air climate and at the same time save energy in buildings. This is achieved by combining ventilation solution used on earth with technology used for climate control in space on the International Space Station. The system is controlled by an optimizing algorithm that guarantees optimal air quality at the lowest possible energy consumption.
All people should breathe good airOur vision is that people should breathe good air. We will reach this by developing innovative technology that improves air quality and reduces energy consumption in buildings.92% of the world’s population lives in places where air pollution exceeds WHO limits. An estimated 6.5 million deaths are associated with indoor and outdoor air pollution (WHO 2012). That’s 11.6% of all global deaths. This number is rising. The global energy consumption is expected to rise with 30% between 2016-2040. Today, buildings are responsible for ⅓ of the total global energy consumption. The biggest part of this is due to indoor climate control, or HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning) as the market is called. The demand for HVAC is expected to rise as low-income countries, primarily in Asia, will develop and demand better indoor climate as part of better living conditions. The problem is that there is a trade-off between air quality and energy savings. If we want better air quality in a building it will cost energy. If we want to save energy on climate control we will get lower air quality. This is the problem we are solving at Sally R. We develop solutions that improve air quality while reducing energy consumption.Guiding valuesHave funWe believe that good air should be a human right. To make this a reality, we want to upgrade the climate control systems of buildings to make sure that people breathe good air. As the purpose of companies is to make a profit, we must be able to save energy in buildings while improving air quality. Otherwise, our technology will have no impact. In order to develop the needed solutions, we must be creative. Creativity is essential for our success. Having fun boosts creativity. Thus, having fun is one of our core values and a KPI to monitor.Let smart people be smartTo reach our vision we need a strong team of super smart people. People who constantly want to improve and develop. Thus, we need to empower them and support them in their continuous personal development. With such talent and brain power, in combination with a strong vision we all buy in on, it would be foolish not to trust the team members to take responsibility and deliver their utmost to reach our vision. Thus, we trust our team members and delegate responsibility as far as possible. We trust each and every team member to make the right decision within their field of responsibility to get us closer to our vision, in a way that is in line with our shared values. Speed is vital and a flat organization speeds up progress. Be honest and deliver qualityThat all people should breathe good air is an audacious goal. It could also be seen as altruistic. The purpose of any company is, by law (at least Swedish law), to make a profit. To combine this purpose with our vision will be a challenge. We will be scrutinized. Therefore, honesty and transparency are words to be lived by. Dishonesty of any kind will hurt us badly. With an altruistic vision, we have the potential of creating a super strong brand. We will capitalize on this in our marketing strategy. To be able to do so we need to deliver quality products and services. People, people, peopleBusinesses, organizations, markets, suppliers and customers are nothing but people. Let’s try to understand these people and their objectives. Let’s focus on the individuals and connect through empathy. This might demand more time and resources, but it will pay back manifold. It will improve our relations, drive business and get us closer to our vision, with the added benefit of us growing as human beings while spreading empathy and enjoying great relations.
