More about Butterfly Ventures

The fund focuses on hardware and deep tech companies whose business is built around unique, often protected and hard to reproduce technology. They also focus on research based innovation. The fund is particularly interested in seed stage companies with high growth potential. While most of the target companies will be from Finland, the fund will also invest elsewhere in the Nordics and the Baltics.

Experience

Butterfly Ventures was founded in 2012. Since then they have had a large market share of all the early stage first time investment rounds invested by venture capital funds in Finland. Butterfly Ventures have invested in more than 50 companies so far. They have offices Oulu and Helsinki, and presence in Stockholm.

How much do they invest?

Currently Butterfly Ventures has 30M under management. The latest fund Butterfly Venture Fund III was launched in 2016. They do pre-seed and seed investments; pre-seed investments being in the range of €50k – 200k and seed investments €200k – €400k. The pre-seed is frequently used as a part of their due diligence process.

How do they work?

If you fulfill all or most of their selection criterias, you might become Butterfly Ventures’ next big hit. Send them an e-mail.

This makes a difference to them

When they are selecting portfolio companies, they evaluate through five criteria:

  1. Scalability – Can your be scaled and repeated cost efficiently?

  2. Global demand and market – Will your company get piece of the cake through its growth? It should also be able to scale with good prospect for fast accumulation of value.

  3. In the market trend – Is there a demand for the product or service your company offers? Does it for example focus on one or several of the market mega trends?

  4. Patents and IPRs –They are particularly interested in companies which have good premises for taking advantage of patents and IPRs to accelerate growth and value creation.

  5. Team – Finally, your company’s team should be skillful, motivated and committed. You may not have the right team in place from the start, but the best possible team structure will be agreed on after the cooperation starts.
